Lezing 'Preserving the knowledge of the past for the digital future. Electronic access to manuscripts and early printed books in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek München' (30 jaar IBW)

De opleiding Informatie- en Bibliotheekwetenschap ging van start in oktober 1983 en bestaat in 2013 dus dertig jaar. Dat wordt gevierd met een speciale lezingenreeks in het cursusjaar 2013/2014. In de reeks, die als titel Informatie als noodzaak en kans kreeg, gaan elf internationaal erkende sprekers gaan in op nieuwe ontwikkelingen en uitdagingen in de informatiesector.

Since the late 1990s, the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek München has been running a number of projects for the digitization of manuscripts and early printed books. Due to the size and importance of the Munich collection, it is crucial to make theses sources accessible to the widest possible audience not only through local, but also via national and international databases. As a partner for the maintenance and development of databases like ‘Manuscripta mediaevalia’ and the ‘Incunabula Short Title Catalogue’, the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek provides digital reproductions as well as high-quality metadata for these resources. The lecture will give an overview over ways to access bibliographical descriptions for manuscripts and incunabula and discuss the impact of digitization on cataloguing projects for mediaeval books.
