Samenvatting	Deze bevraging van 25 Vlaamse erfgoedbibliotheken roept het beeld op van een slechts stilaan ontwakende sector die de voorbije decennia geen of onvoldoende aandacht heeft gekregen en daardoor op vele vlakken een grote achterstand heeft opgelopen. De erfgoedwerking rond bewaarbibliotheken bevindt zich nog te vaak in de marge, zowel van de erfgoedsector als van de instellingen waartoe ze behoren. Hoewel met het Cultureel-erfgoeddecreet van 2008 een nieuw elan tot stand kwam, is een door de sector gedragen toekomstperspectief rond erfgoedbibliotheken absoluut noodzakelijk. De achterstanden kunnen niet ingehaald worden zonder een bewustmaking van de erfgoedbibliotheken zelf, de besturen waaronder ze ressorteren, het publiek dat ze al dan niet bedienen, en last, not least, de Vlaamse overheid. This survey of 25 Flemish heritage libraries evokes the image of a gradually awakening sector that has received little or no attention in past decades and that has thus developed a major disadvantage in many respects. In many cases, the heritage aspects of libraries are still too peripheral in terms of both the institutions to which they belong and the heritage sector as a whole. Despite the new impetus that emerged from the Cultural Heritage Decree of 2008, a perspective on the future of heritage libraries that is supported by the entire sector is imperative. The backlogs cannot be eliminated without raising the awareness of the heritage libraries themselves, as well as that of the boards to which they are accountable, the public that they may serve and – finally, but importantly – the Flemish government.
