LIBER Working Group Preservation and Digital Curation

LIBER (Ligue des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherche) is een netwerk van wetenschappelijke bibliotheken. Ruim 400 instellingen uit 45 landen binnen en buiten Europa maken deel uit van deze internationale belangenbehartigingsorganisatie.

De Vlaamse Erfgoedbibliotheek is eveneens lid en levert in de persoon van coördinator Eva Wuyts de secretary van de Working Group Preservation and Digital Curation [1].

Working Group Preservation and Digital Curation

Deze werkgroep is "concerned with the full range of heritage materials; both in analogue and digital form. Issues to be covered include preservation of all aspects of the physical object (e.g. bindings, paper) and digital curation of both originals and copies made in order to preserve and protect the original (e.g. photographic materials, microforms, digitised data).  The Working Group stresses the need for the development, maintenance, and implementation of standards and to identify and stimulate ‘best practice’ in the field of preservation at the European level and to take measures to meet those needs. The Working Group regularly reviews the need for the development of training opportunities in the fields of heritage collections at the European level, and consider issues such as professional development and international accreditation."

Steering Committee on Heritage Collections and Preservation

Als secretary zetelt de coördinator ook in het overkoepelende Steering Committee on Heritage Collections and Preservation [1]. De prioriteiten voor de periode 2009-2012 van het Steering Committee zijn de volgende:

1. To identify the opportunities for practical cooperation with other international organisations
2. To ensure that communication channels in the fields of heritage collections and preservation are open and working and develop a particular focus on building dialogue with colleagues in central and Eastern Europe
3. Be active communication partner on EU level and partner in discussions about funding proposals / projects
4. To organise conference(s) and/or workshops and/or training events in the fields of heritage collections and preservation jointly or separately in 2010-2011

Op die manier tracht de Vlaamse Erfgoedbibliotheek internationale contacten te leggen met experten in Europa en expertise over de duurzame bewaring van erfgoedcollecties naar Vlaanderen te halen.
